Jesus tells the religious leaders why he has come.

1. What did Jesus say and do to show he had authority to forgive sins?

v 4 to 6  Jesus, ... said, ... which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Get up, and walk?’ But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins-” (then he said to the paralytic), “Get up, and take up your mat, and go to your house.”

2. What kind of people did Jesus say he had come to call?  

v 13 ... for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

3. What one good and one bad characteristic did the two blind men have?

v 28 and 29: ... Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
They told him, “Yes, Lord.”
Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”

v 30 and 31 ... Jesus strictly commanded them, saying, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

  • v 1 to 8 Some scribes think Jesus is blaspheming when he tells a paralytic that his sins are forgiven. He heals the man to show he really has this authority
  • v 9 to 13 Jesus calls Matthew. He says he has come to call sinners when he is criticised by the Pharisees for eating with sinners in Matthew's house

  • v 35 to 38 Jesus teaches and heals and is moved with compassion for the people
