| Chapter text (World English Bible version) | |
| In this Psalm written by king David, he shares his experiences of shepherding; he regards God as his shepherd. | |
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing. | What does the psalmist say about the Lord as his shepherd? |
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. | Where does the shepherd lead him, and what does that provide? |
3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. | How does the Lord restore and guide the psalmist? |
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. | Why does the psalmist not fear even in the darkest valley? |
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. | What picture does the psalmist give of God’s care and blessing? |
6 Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the LORD’s house forever. | What confidence does the psalmist have about God’s goodness and his future? |
