Psalm 1

Chapter text (World English Bible version)
A comparison between the person who chooses to follow God’s laws, and the wicked.
Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand on the path of sinners,
nor sit in the seat of scoffers;
Who will be blessed?
but his delight is in the LORD’s* law.
On his law he meditates day and night.
* When rendered in capitals, “LORD” is the translation of God’s Proper Name (Hebrew “יהוה”, usually pronounced Yahweh).
What does he delight in?
He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water,
that produces its fruit in its season,
whose leaf also does not wither.
Whatever he does shall prosper.
What will he then be like?
The wicked are not so,
but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
What are the wicked compared with?
Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
What will happen to the wicked?
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked shall perish.
How do the righteous and the wicked differ?
