Receiving God's message

A selection of verses showing how we should react to God's message.

The apostle Paul makes it clear that receiving God's message should have a real effect on our lives:

Philippians 1 verse 27

27 Only let your way of life be worthy of the Good News of Christ, that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your state, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the Good News;

Colossians 1 verses 9 - 10

9 For this cause, we also, since the day we heard this, don’t cease praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God,

The apostle Paul thanks God for the enthusiastic reaction of the Thessalonians to God's message:

1 Thessalonians 2 verse 13

13 For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.

Jesus Christ made it clear that following him involves commitment:

Matthew 10 verses 38 - 39

38 He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me, isn’t worthy of me. 39 He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

Mark 8 verses 35 - 36

35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?
