  • v 1 to 13 After receiving Holy Spirit power, Jesus goes into the wilderness for 40 days and is tempted by the devil. Jesus answers every temptation with quotations from the Scriptures
  • v 14 to 30 Jesus quotes from Isaiah to imply that he has been given this power to help him preach the good news of God’s salvation. However as he continues speaking he tells them that no prophet is accepted in his own hometown. The people become very annoyed by his words and attempt to kill him
  • v 31 to 41 His preaching and miracles make him famous and many people come to him
  • v 42 to 44 The multitudes try to detain him, but he insists on preaching in other areas
