A selection of verses showing that Jesus is the Light of the world.
On two occasions Jesus himself tells us that he is the Light of the world:
12 Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
When Simeon saw the baby Jesus he said:
29 “Now you are releasing your servant, Master,
according to your word, in peace;
30 for my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
32 a light for revelation to the nations,
and the glory of your people Israel.”
Jesus tells us that his followers are also lights in the world:
14 You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.
The apostle Paul reminds believers that they are to walk in the light:
8 For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,
